Neelesh MutyalaNeelesh C. Mutyala was appointed to the University of Houston System Board of Regents by Governor Greg Abbott in 2017 and will serve through May 31, 2018.  For fiscal year 2016-2017, Regent Mutyala will serve as a member of the Academic and Student Success and the Facilities, Construction and Master Planning Committees.

Mutyala is a junior in the Honors College and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) and is completing a Bachelor of Science in Honors Biomedical Sciences with minors in Education, Biology, and Medicine & Society.  At the University of Houston, Neelesh is an active member of the Interscholastic Fishing League and the Houston Archery Club student organizations.  He has also helped work as an NSM peer mentor, start a human rights panel series on campus, and establish the Ben Taub Critical Care Initiative Volunteer Service Program in collaboration with Ben Taub General Hospital.  In addition, he studied abroad in the Galapagos Islands and completed research at institutions including the Mayo Clinic, Rice University, and MD Anderson.

Mutyala graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Fort Bend ISD as the class valedictorian and a National Merit scholar..
