Asit R. Shah

Asit R. Shah was appointed to the UH System Board of Regents in 2014 by Governor Rick Perry and will serve through May 31, 2015. For fiscal year 2014-2015,
he will serve as a member of the Academic and Student Success Committee and a member of the Facilities, Construction and Master Planning Committee.

Shah is a student at the Honors College and C.T. Bauer College of Business and Honors College. He plans to graduate in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems and Supply Chain Management. He is also minoring in Energy and Sustainability.

Asit currently serves as a Student Regent for the University of Houston System Board of Regents. A student regent is a non-voting member of the Board of Regents and is appointed by the Texas Governor for a one-year term.

At the University of Houston, Asit is a transfer mentor for the Bauer Business Honors Program, a Co-Coordinator for the Honors Advocate, a member of the Energy Association and he has served on the Undergraduate Admissions Review Committee (2013-2014). He also cofounded College Knowledge, a company seeking to provide college-bound students with guidance, coaching and advice on improving their high school-college transition.

Shah is the recipient of The George Foundation Fort Bend County Scholarship, The Honors College Enron Merit Scholarship and was honored by the General Motor's Foundation with the Buick Achiever's Program Provisional Scholarship.

Asit graduated in the top 8% of his class at William B. Travis High School where he was awarded with the Principal's Achievement Award for Outstanding Senior Students (Richmond, Texas).

* Shah is part of a group of students appointed by the Texas Governor to serve on their respective university system governing boards. These students have the same powers and duties as regents, but do not vote or are considered part of a quorum. The first such appointees served from 2006 to 2007. Prior to this, student regents were elected by their peers.
