John T. Cater

John Cater's banking career spans 40 years including his role as Chairman of River Oaks Trust Company; President of MCorp, a $20 billion statewide bank holding company; and President of Texas Commerce Bank.  

He concluded his banking career as Chairman of Compass Bank-Houston.  Mr. Cater served on the Board of CenterPoint Energy and its predecessor, Reliant Energy, for 25 years.  

He is currently on the Advisory Board of Compass Bank-Houston and serves actively with several Texas Medical Center institutions, foundation boards and has led numerous civic and non-profit organizations.

He currently serves on the University of Houston's Board of Visitors, a leadership group of private sector opinion leaders and University advocates that serves to advance the University of Houston and improve the University's image in Houston and throughout the region.
