Richard Walker Appointed UHCL President

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Last October, I appointed Richard Walker, then vice chancellor and vice president for student affairs and enrollment services at UH System and UH, to serve as interim president for the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has close to 40 years of experience in higher education, at both public and private institutions, and, most importantly, a dedication to helping students reach their full potential.

Today, it is with great pleasure that I announce Richard Walker as the sixth president of UH-Clear Lake effective May 20, 2022, pending the UH System Board of Regent's approval at their next meeting.

This decision comes after conducting a thorough and exhaustive national search, aided by a search firm and search committee comprised of students, faculty, deans, alumni and other supporters, that helped yield a strong and diverse pool of experienced candidates for consideration. I thank President Robert Glenn of University of Houston-Victoria and the members of the search committee for their hard work and commitment during this process and appreciate their service to UHCL.

Richard Walker is a seasoned educational administrator who has demonstrated a commitment to students and academic excellence in each role he has served during his distinguished career as an educator. He holds a doctorate of education from the University of Miami, a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Memphis and a specialist of education bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Please join me in congratulating Richard Walker on his selection as the next president and in wishing him well as he moves the University of Houston-Clear Lake to the next level of excellence.

With warm regards,

Renu Khator
Chancellor, University of Houston System
