Digital Accessibility
The University of Houston System (UHS) is committed to ensuring that its electronic content is accessible to its students, faculty, staff, and all other individuals with disabilities participating or engaging in the programs and services of University of Houston components. All UHS students, faculty, and staff members can help us foster an inclusive environment in which all of our community members can fully participate in educational activities.
We can all take proactive steps to ensure that our emails, documents, web pages, social media and other forms of digital content are readable by individuals with disabilities in accordance with Texas Administrative Code 213 and 206.70, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and SAM 01.D.13 (Electronic and Information Resources Accessibility Policy).
Accessibility compliance is provided in federal and state law as well as being good business practice to structure digital content.
Greater accessibility means more people can access electronic information systems and digital content such as:
- Digital documents,
- Websites,
- Learning Management Systems (LMS),
- Social media,
- E-mail blasts, and other forms of digital content.
Greater accessibility results in an increased audience size and public impact of the work of higher education.
