Dear UH System Faculty and Staff,

I hope this message finds you well and inspired as we navigate through our new academic year. I am pleased to share that Gov. Greg Abbott has made appointments to the University of Houston System Board of Regents, heralding a new chapter of dynamic leadership for our System and its four universities.

Welcome Regent Tammy Denton Murphy

I extend our warmest welcome to Tammy Denton Murphy, who is a new appointment to the UHS Board of Regents. Regent Murphy is an alumna of the University of Houston-Victoria and an impassioned advocate for education. She has continually exhibited a profound commitment to supporting education through mentorship, scholarships and community initiatives. Regent Murphy is the co-owner of three Chick-fil-A restaurants and a notable business leader. A past recipient of the UHV Distinguished Alumni Award and the UHV Community Partnership Award, Regent Murphy’s leadership will undoubtedly augment our focus on student success.

Reappointments: Regents Jack Moore and Gregory King

The governor has reappointed Regents Jack Moore and Gregory King, both of whom have offered incomparable service and expertise to the Board.

  • Regent Moore will continue to bring a wealth of strategic and management expertise to the Board. Since his initial appointment in 2018, he has offered his unwavering support towards the advancements of our UH System. During the 2022-23 academic year, Regent Moore served as vice chairman of the Board, chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee, and member of the Finance and Administration Committee and of the Endowment Management Committee. Prior to his retirement, Regent Moore was president and CEO of Cameron International Corporation among other notable positions.
  • Regent Gregory King, a proud alumnus of the UH Law Center, was appointed in April to fill a vacant position on the Board and will now embark on a full six-year term. He is a seasoned leader whose wealth of experience and dedication to service is evident through his leadership roles in numerous organizations. Regent King is a managing partner of EnCap Flatrock Midstream (EFM). Prior to joining EFM, Regent King served as president, chief operating officer and general counsel during a 15-year career at Valero Energy.

A Gracious Farewell to Regent Doug Brooks

I would like to express our collective gratitude to Regent Doug Brooks, who departs the board after six years of distinguished service. His steadfast commitment and leadership, most recently serving as chair of the Facilities, Construction, and Master Planning Committee, have undeniably propelled our institutions forward.

These appointments and reappointments, which will span through to August 31, 2029, ensure stability and fresh perspectives that will steer the UH System towards its future goals and successes. Thank you for joining me in welcoming our new regent and recognizing the continued service of our current regents.

Warm regards,
