Corbin J. Robertson

The Corbin J. Robertson Society is named for one of the major benefactors of Houston Athletics over the past half-century. Corbin J. Robertson, along with his wife Wilhelmina and his in-laws Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen and their families, is considered one of the major benefactors of Houston Athletics. Robertson, who recognized the importance of an excellent athletics program to the entire university, gave his drive, enthusiasm, and monetary support through grants and endowments to the birth of the University of Houston's athletics program.

Robertson worked closely with former UH Director of Athletics Harry Fouke and became instrumental in the recruitment of coaches for football, basketball and golf. He was responsible for attracting fans, prospects and attention, helping to create the nationally-ranked programs of the 1960s and '70s.

In 1980, the UH football stadium was named to honor Robertson for his support of the Cougar athletics program. With the continued financial support of the next generation of Robertson family members and other generous Cougar fans, the stadium underwent numerous facelifts over the next few decades making it more fan-friendly. The site of the historic venue is now the site of TDECU Stadium.

In the spirit of our earliest athletics donor, UH created the Corbin J. Robertson Society to recognize his long-term commitments to the goals and ideals of a strong, vibrant and fiscally responsible intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Houston. Because of the foundation laid by Robertson, today more that 300 student-athletes benefit from scholarship support.

Each member in the Corbin J. Robertson Society underwrites the current cost of one full athletic scholarship. Society members have the privilege of being assigned a student-athlete and have numerous opportunities to nurture a personal relationship with that student during his or her collegiate career.
