“I am deeply honored by the trust my fellow regents have placed in me to serve as chairman,” Moore said. “The University of Houston System is on an incredible trajectory, and I look forward to working alongside my colleagues and Chancellor Khator to continue advancing student success, research excellence and community impact.”

Moore, who earned his B.B.A. from UH in 1977, was appointed to the UH System Board of Regents by Governor Greg Abbott in 2018 and is currently serving a second term. He most recently served as President and CEO of Cameron International Corporation from 2008 to 2015 and Chairman of the Board of Cameron from 2011 to 2016 when it was acquired by Schlumberger.

“Jack Moore brings exceptional leadership, vision and determination to his new role as chairman of the Board of Regents. His vast experience as a successful business leader and his commitment to academic excellence make him a perfect fit,” said UH System Chancellor Renu Khator. “I look forward to working with Chairman Moore to continue advancing the mission of the University and further elevating our top tier research and academic programs that drive the economy forward, create opportunities for our students and support state and federal priorities.”

Serving alongside Moore, Houston attorney Ricky Raven was selected as vice chairman, and San Antonio businessman Gregory C. King will continue serving as secretary.

Raven, a UH and UH Law Center alumnus, was appointed to the UH System Board of Regents in 2021 and is vice president and deputy general counsel for John Deere. King, also a UH Law Center alumnus, was appointed to the board in 2023 and is managing partner of EnCap Flatrock Midstream in San Antonio.

Fertitta, who served 16 years on the Board and the past 11 as its chairman, was recognized with an honorary doctorate and designated as honorary chair. Under Fertitta’s leadership, the UH System experienced record-breaking growth in enrollment, academic achievement and national prominence. During his Board tenure, UH achieved Tier One research status, joined the Big 12 athletic conference, created the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine, expanded the Andy & Barbara Gessner College of Nursing at UH and secured historic legislative investments, including $1.3 billion for the Texas University Fund.

“It’s an honor to follow Chairman Fertitta, whose leadership and vision have strengthened the entire UH System,” Moore said. “I look forward to building on that momentum and ensuring our students, faculty and community continue to thrive.”

The Board of Regents oversees the three universities that make up the UH System (University of Houston, University of Houston-Clear Lake and University of Houston-Downtown) and is composed of nine regular members appointed by the Governor for six-year terms and a student regent, who serves a one-year appointment.
